Welcome to the Hometown Public Library

How Do I...

Apply for a library card?
Just come in with your valid driver's license or other photo ID showing proof of your Hometown address. There is no charge for your first card or for renewals! Children ages 5 and over can also have their own card. Anyone under the age of 18 is required to have a parent or guardian's signature on their application, so make sure to accompany them on their visit.

Check out E-books?
In order to access our E-books you must first come into the library with your Hometown library card. We will provide you with your exclusive log-in information, and you can begin to read e-Books almost immediately! You can access the e-Books by clicking on this link: The Magic Wall. Download the Axis 360 app to read on all of your mobile devices.

Browse the library catalog?
To view and search our collection of books, periodicals, DVD's, etc., go to our public access catalog by clicking this link: Hometown Public Library Online Catalog. From there you can browse to your heart's content, and even place hold requests for titles of interest!

Renew my library card?
Bring in your expired card with your photo ID showing your Hometown address and we'll renew it for you. It just takes a moment, and there is no charge for this service.

Replace a lost library card?
If you've lost your library card, we'll follow the same procedures as listed above for getting a new card. There is a $2.00 charge for replacing a lost card for the first time, and $5.00 for every time after that.

Renew my books?
In order to renew your books, just give us a call on or before the due date at 708-636-0997. We'll renew them right over the phone if you have no overdue fines.

Clear up a fine?
In order for your card to remain in good standing with us and any other libraries in the Library System, you must take care of any overdue fines as soon as possible. Most books are charged at 10 cents per day. If the book is on a waiting list, or borrowed from another library through Interlibrary Loan the fine is 20 cents per day. Audio books are also 20 cents per day if they are overdue. DVD's carry a $1.00 per day overdue fine. Come in to the library to pay your fines right at the Circulation Desk. If you have lost an item, call us at 708-636-0997 to find out what the replacement charge is.

Rent a movie?
We currently have over 1,000 DVDs available for loan to Hometown residents who have a valid library card and are age 18 and over. A maximum of 5 DVD's may be borrowed for a 3 day loan period. Movies taken out on Thursday may be kept until Monday. As of August 1, 2016, there is no longer a charge to check out movies. However, overdue fines are $1.00 per day, per item.

Donate materials to the library?
We are always happy to accept donations at the library. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any text books or encyclopedias because we simply do not have adequate space. Any other books, audiobooks, CD's or VHS/DVD's will be gratefully included either in our collection or our annual book sale. Call ahead if you'd like to make sure we can accept your donation, and PLEASE do not leave donated items in the outdoor book drop. Thank you!

Use a computer at the library?
The library has three computers for Hometown patrons to use. Click on the Roberton Computer Center link for detailed information.
